Book of the Day, Life (Or Something)

Le Livre du Jour (Book of the Day)

I started reading Lost Illusions to set the context for a paper on the French publishing industry but fell in love.

The book is focused on a young poet named Lucien as he journeys to Paris in search of literary fame. Along the way, he meets various people with the same goals, sneaky publishers, and journalists who gave up literature for politics.

My least favorite thing about the book is Lucien himself–mostly because he’s an awful person who tramples people in his wake for the sake of ambition.

It’s beautiful.
